Dr. Arthur A. Kezian DDS, a Los Angeles Cosmetic Dentist, started a scholarship program a several years ago in hopes of giving back to aspiring students as they pursued career in the field of science. As these students pursue their higher education, they are left with financial expenses that they are not necessarily ready to handle. Dr. Kezian developed his idea into a successful scholarship program. Dr. Kezian has been a student himself and understands the financial pressures these students are facing. He wants to support the students financially so that can they focus a little less about the money and have room to pursue their dreams. This year, we are proud to announce a new scholarship recipient to award and congratulate – Steven Saleem Pervez. He is not only academically deserving, having amazing accomplishments in the field of science and medicine, but also he has overcome a great difficulty in his life as a cancer survivor. Steven has turned this unfortunate life experience into his passion for scientific research, and a desire to change the world for others. His character speaks for itself and he has a great personality to accompany it.
Steven is currently pursuing his Master of Business and Science in Biotech Management and Operations at Keck Graduate Institute in Claremont and he is expected to graduate in 2021. His previous education included a Bachelor of Science in Microbiologic and Immunologic Concepts from California Polytechnic University, Pomona which he received in 2019.
Steven was drawn to the university’s “learn by doing” philosophy, which he found was particularly applicable to his chosen field of study. He found his coursework as rich as it was pragmatic; these classes were not limited to the subjects of Virology, Hematology, and Epidemiology. In addition to these upper divisions, Steven spent his senior year serving as the president of CPP’s Pre-Medical Association. He is grateful this position enabled him to speak to local youth in order to excite them about science.
Apart from his studies, Steven was asked to present a TEDx talk in which he described his plight battling Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. He used this platform to announce his future goal of positively affecting the Pediatric ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia) community. To further bolster his marketability on an increasingly uncertain marketplace, Steven applied and was subsequently offered a summer internship at Gilead Sciences. As a member of the Development Business Operations Department, Steven is looking forward to working with pricing strategy and distribution of therapeutic products to, in his own words, “save the kids.” After shadowing a physician in the department of Neurosurgery, Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, Steven soon adjusted his trajectory slightly in order to implement a larger scale, strategic impact and apply to a graduate program at the crossroad of business and science.
Steven considers himself a generalist and has hobbies ranging from musical instrumentation to the daily study of Senecan philosophy. He has come to realize that the public’s edification is the first step to combating germ-line and geneticist predispositions to cancer. Thereby, he sought out a platform to educate those in his community and found the vision driven VoyageLA, a platform with over 50 thousand Instagram followers, in order to discuss his firsthand experience and future career plans.
These days, Steven can be found at his desk, diligently completing his internship with Gilead Sciences in addition to offering his spare time to supervising/streamlining transference of COVID test results to affected patients and their families. He is ready and willing to accept any and every role related to mentor ship and professional development. Drawing on his experience personally staring down Lymphoma, Steven realizes the value of the adage “in the same well that we find our struggle, we can find our strength.”
After graduating next year from the Keck Graduate Institute, Steven will be starting an exciting career at Gilead where he hopes to become supply chain/operations leader. He will join the company as a Global Directions Manager after he graduates.
The entire staff at Dr. Arthur A. Kezian DDS would like to congratulate Steven Pervez for all his accomplishments. The committee strongly believes he is deserving of the award and wishes him the best of luck on his journey. We are all very proud of his triumph and hope to see him become a successful scientific researcher one day.

As a dentist, Dr. Kezian knows the value of individual achievement for the benefit of one’s community. I do not take for granted that he extended a helping hand back to seek out a student with similar values. When it is my turn to do so, I pledge to follow suit.“

Dr. Kezian thanks all those who applied this year to the scholarship and wishes them the best in all their studies and future goals. He is encouraging these students to keep pursuing their dreams and working hard. He hopes that the students can apply again for the upcoming scholarship applications for a new chance at receiving $1,200 to use towards their education.
