Oral Hygiene Tips
Don’t Forget to Floss:
Flossing removes food particles from between the teeth where tooth brush cannot reach. Accumulation of food particles can lead to plaque or more serious problems, so it is important to keep your teeth clean and keep up with your dental care.
- Add flossing to your home care, it only takes a few minutes but prevents a lot.
- Floss at least once a day, and if your gums regularly bleed, then flossing more and more will slowly decrease the bleeding.
Brushing Twice a Day Keeps the Germs Away:
A soft bristled tooth brush is good enough to clean your teeth and brushing twice a day prevents decay and gum diseases.
· Brushing should be done for 2 to 3 minutes.
· You should tilt your brush at a 45 degree angle to make sure the bristles go underneath the gums as well.
· Use circular or up and down motions to prevent your enamel from wearing away. Don’t scrub vigorously in a side to side motion.
· As far as replacing your tooth brush, it should be done once every 3 to 4 months or when you see the bristles are wearing off.
Oral hygiene plays an important role in keeping a bright smile which in turn keeps your entire body healthy. Apart from dental products, there are also other ways to help keep your smile looking nice which in turn can also help your body feel great.
- Many fruits and vegetables like apples, carrots, celery, and pears naturally whiten your teeth because of their acidic nature.
- Cheese, milk and yogurt contain calcium and phosphorus which strengthens the tooth enamel.
- Strawberries contain an acid which can help remove stains on the teeth.
Music to Calm Your Nerves:
Majority of the people get shivers up their spine when they think about going to a dentist and minor dental problems turn into major ones because of their anxiety.
- Music soothes you and is the best solution to divert your mind when you visit the dentist.
- A deep breathing exercise is also a good solution to calm your nerves.
Control Your Stomach Acid:
Indigestion is another cause of dental problems. Stomach acids can cause the enamel to decay.
- Avoid beverages like alcohol or wine and caffeinated drinks like tea or coffee.
- Spicy food and fried food are also a cause for dental problems.
Tongue Cleaning:
Cleaning your tongue is an important part while brushing your teeth. Bacteria harbored in the tongue can create bad breath and other dental problems.
- A proper tongue cleaner should be used to scrape the tongue after brushing.
