            Dental crowns are an important aspect of dentistry as they provide stability and support for your natural teeth. The office of Dr. Arthur A. Kezian DDS has been restoring smiles and providing its patients with dental crowns for the past 30 years! Now, they would like to introduce a new method to achieving a dental crown that is more comfortable, more aesthetically pleasing, and less time consuming. This method is called CEREC technology and produces a different type of crown.

Crowns are used to protect teeth that have broken down, have large fillings, are weak due to active decay, are misaligned, or are discolored. In modern dentistry, crowns are even used for implants!

Crowns can be made to look as natural as your own teeth. There are different types of materials used for making crowns, one being porcelain. Using porcelain gives the crown a slight translucency which aids in making it look natural. The shade of the porcelain can also be adjusted to match your existing teeth making it difficult to tell the crown apart!

So why use the CEREC method? Typically, crowns require various visits to the dental office. The first visit includes the preparation of your crown. An impression is taken of your tooth and you’re given a temporary crown until the lab customizes your permanent one; this usually takes about ten days. CEREC crowns, on the other hand, are all done at the same office, reducing the wait period. These crowns also cut back on the discomfort level since everything is done at once.

During the procedure, an infrared camera takes special images of your tooth and sends them straight to the CEREC machine. These images are then made 3-D and the crown is milled right there and then. You won’t deal with impressions, temporary crowns, discomfort, or even waiting around! It’s that simple.
