Many people experience dental anxiety prior to an appointment with the dentist. However, technology advancements now allow for more comfortable and minimally invasive procedures than ever before. Technology has also afforded dentists better methods of evaluating the oral health of their patients. This in turn has led to more accurate diagnosis, less painful and more dependable results. Here are some of the technologies that you can benefit from.
Digital Radiography
This type of X-ray imaging makes use of sensors in capturing digital images. This technology reduces the amount of radiation exposure by about 70 to 80 percent. Through digital radiography, dentists are able to view images better and therefore make accurate diagnosis. This decreases the number of x-rays needed especially in surgical procedures such as implants and root canals.
CAM/CAD
Computer assisted manufacture (CAM) and computer assisted design (CAD) are technologies that enable dental restorations such as inlays, onlays, veneers and crowns to be developed using a technology referred to as computerized milling technology. Dentists liaise with CAD/CAM in-offices to deliver same- day tooth restorations which would have otherwise taken more than one visit to the dentist to complete. CAM/CAD technologies also allow dentists to handle sensitive cases. The dentist works with a digital dental laboratory so as to fabricate dental restorations specified to the needs of the patient.
Dental Lasers
Lasers are mainly used in soft tissue management. Instead of the traditional scary and sharp dental tools, technology now affords the opportunity to use laser while conducting minor surgical procedures. Sutures are not necessary with laser incisions and this means that most of the soft tissue treatments can be done without anesthesia. In this case, the patient does not experience unnecessary pain and discomfort. Laser also allows for a less complicated and shorter healing process when compared to traditional techniques.
Diagnodent
Diagnodent is a technology that enables prompt detection of cavities. This technology advancement makes use of laser and sound impulse in the detection of cavities. The detection is done much earlier that traditional methods would allow. Early detection means that treatment can be administered in good time. This stops the dental decay from spreading. Another advantage is that much of the healthy tooth structure is preserved.
Cone Beam CT
Cone beam is a type of computerized tomography that allows for a quick 3-D image. The dentist is able to view the patient’s maxillofacial and oral anatomy through Cone beam CT digital imaging. This technology has transformed and informed implant surgical guides. It is used by periodontists and oral surgeons especially when placing dental implants. This form of imaging technique has made it easier for implant placement. Accurate implant placement ensures greater success in dental treatment.
Intra-Oral Camera
Intra-oral cameras help to produce more accurate images of the teeth and supporting structures. The cameras allow the dental technician, the dentist and the patient to see any teeth defects. Accurate imaging allows the patient to see the need for the dental treatment being recommended. The intra-oral cameras also help the patients to see the problematic areas that need extra hygiene practices and areas where they need to focus on when brushing or flossing.
Optical Scanners
Optical scanners are another trend in digital dentistry. They give the dentist a digital map of the patient’s teeth. They also provide a better view of the tooth anatomy. Optical scanners use digital color maps which highlight the problematic areas using a particular shade of color. Custom characterizations can also be used in cosmetic restorations. This is a relief from traditional impressions which make use of unpleasant tasting materials, cumbersome and bulky trays which leaves the patient feeling anxious and uncomfortable.
A visit to the dentist does not have to be a terrifying experience thanks to these and more technology advancement in dentistry.

- Saskia Wilson-Brown3/08/2025Yesterday, Dr. K performed an extremely complicated wisdom tooth extraction in 15 minutes, tops. I was freaked out of my gourd for weeks anticipating the procedure, but he made it feel like no big deal. I remain, as I always have been, very very impressed with Dr. K's mastery. He's the Da Vinci of teeth! The folks at this office are very good at what they do. They've saved teeth that other dentists have told me were unsavable. They've expertly managed and replaced my two veneers. I found myself, a few years ago, actually looking forward to a root canal: I knew that in their hands, it would be easy. Dr. K., Dr. Mike, Dr. Steve, the wonderful Dr. Narine, and the entire team is just fantastic, and this is why they've been my entire family's dentists for more than two decades.read moreread less
- Joshua Corey2/22/2025Dr. Tashjin has always been so good to me, I’m so lucky to have found this dentist. They’re always good about giving me lots of novocaine when I ask (I’m a baby) and working with me on cost/insurance so I can afford the work I need. They’ve always patiently fixed a chipped tooth of mine a couple times, on short notice. Can’t recommend enough.read moreread less
- James Alford2/22/2025Drs. Arthur and Michael Kazian are exceptional at their craft, professional, courteous, amiable and caring towards my first recommended visit I pay it forward by encouraging anyone in need or in search of a qualified dentist to do the same; the staff was equally friendly, polite, professional and caring. I was totally at ease in their care and will absolutely follow through with their next recommended appointment and suggest that anyone reading this follows suit by doing the same.read moreread lessRyan2/13/2025Incredible dentist! I chipped my front tooth at the gym on a Saturday morning. After some quick google magic I found Dr. Kezian, and not only was he able to take me in same day and get it done, he also had time for a cleaning (it had been like 10 years since my last dentist appt.) and a diagnosis of all my cavities. He set up a treatment plan for me same day. I have been back probably 5 times since to address my many cavities, some of them very deep and hard to fill and it is always a pleasure. Great staff, great dentist, family vibes. I especially like how he shows photos of the cavity filling process: beginning, after cleaning out decay, and after fill. If you're in LA, especially if your'e new here and worried about finding an honest, good dentist, this is your guy! Thanks Doctor!read moreread less

- Yorgo Constantine2/07/2025My 85 year old father was visiting from out of town and had a dental emergency. An implant became infected. His left cheek swelled and was very painful. Dr. Kezian saw my father within a day for a consultation. The office is in a charming stand alone building in the Larchmont area. The office is beautiful. All white and glass. A boutique spa. The staff was very comforting. They took my father in and treated him like one of their regular patients. Dr. Kezian was swift and clear with his diagnosis and kindly prescribed antibiotics for the infection and a referral to a periodontist.read moreread less
